Japanese Saturday School

The Japanese Saturday School, which operates out of Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, celebrated its tenth anniversary in 1999.  When the Saturday School first opened, there were 24 students.  Today, enrollment is over 130, making it the third largest program in the seven Southeastern states.

Most of the students enrolled in the Kindergarten through 12 program of the Saturday School are the children of Japanese employees of the various Japanese-owned companies in the Upstate.  Enrollment is certainly not limited to these students, and several other students who understand Japanese have participated in the program over the years.

The Saturday School provides the essential service of helping students maintain and advance critical language and other skills in the event that they return to Japan to complete their education or attend a university.  The curriculum includes Japanese language classes, mathematics, art, history, calligraphy, Japanese literature, and a variety of other classes.
